China executes 11 mafia members for $1.4 billion fraud

The executions took place after China's Supreme People's Court upheld lower court sentences against members of the Min family crime syndicate, Fox News reports.

The convicted individuals oversaw large-scale telecommunications fraud and gambling operations operating from northern Myanmar. The scheme's turnover exceeded 10 billion yuan (approximately $1.4 billion).

The group acted in collusion with other criminal organizations under the direction of "financial sponsors." In addition to telephone fraud, they were involved in operating illegal casinos, drug trafficking, and prostitution.

The Ming family criminal group also colluded with Wu Hongming's online fraud ring and others to commit murder, inflict bodily harm, and illegally detain people involved in the fraud, resulting in the deaths of 14 Chinese citizens and the injury of many others.

Among those executed were Ming Guoping, Ming Zhenzhen, Zhou Weichang, Wu Hongming, and others. They were allowed to meet with their close relatives before their executions.
