China is preparing to seize Taiwan by the end of 2027

The Pentagon report notes that as of 2024, China's nuclear arsenal consisted of about 600 warheads. Although the pace of production has slowed somewhat compared to previous years, the overall trend toward expansion continues. According to US military forecasts, Beijing plans to have more than 1,000 nuclear warheads at its disposal by 2030.

The non-profit Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists confirms that China is modernizing and expanding its weapons stockpile faster than any other nuclear power.

“We continue to see no willingness on Beijing's part to take action or engage in more comprehensive arms control negotiations,” the document says.

A separate section of the report is devoted to the situation around Taiwan. Pentagon analysts say China expects to be ready for war with the island and to win it by the end of 2027.

One scenario involves shelling the island from a distance of 1,500-2,000 nautical miles. The report notes that a large number of such strikes could “seriously complicate and disrupt the US presence in the Asia-Pacific region,” which is a critical deterrent factor.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington rejected the accusations, stating that the PRC allegedly adheres to a defensive nuclear strategy and maintains its forces at the minimum level necessary for national security, and adheres to its commitments to a moratorium on nuclear testing.
