EU plans to adopt a 20th package of sanctions against Russia

The sanctions are intended to further punish Moscow for its aggressive war against Ukraine and further weaken the Russian economy, Welt reports.

Travel restrictions and asset freezes in the EU are planned for other individuals and organizations, with a particular focus on those responsible for the removal and ideological re-education of children.

Additional sanctions are envisaged in the energy and banking sectors. There are plans to close loopholes that allow existing sanctions to be circumvented.

Brussels is considering banning imports of Russian uranium and thus imposing sanctions on Russia's Federal Atomic Energy Agency (Rosatom).

Many EU countries have long been calling for such restrictions. However, there is still resistance from countries such as France and Belgium.

According to diplomatic circles, these countries could also purchase the uranium needed to operate their nuclear power plants from South Africa, Australia, or Canada, but at higher prices.
