Kellogg flies to Lukashenka

According to two sources, the exact agenda for the meeting is unknown, although Kellogg has privately described the trip as a step that could help launch the process of peace talks to end Russia's war against Ukraine, Reuters reported.

Planning such trips requires careful negotiation, and it is possible that it could be canceled or changed at the last minute.

If Kellogg meets with Lukashenko, he would become the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit the authoritarian state in recent years.

In 2020, during Trump's first term, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Belarus, which was then the highest-level visit by the U.S. to the country in 20 years. The trip was part of the first Trump administration's campaign to improve relations with Belarus at a time when relations between Minsk and Moscow were at their lowest point.
