PKK announces self-dissolution

This came days after the organization's congress in northern Iraq, AP reported.

In February 2025, PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, who has been imprisoned in a Turkish prison since 1999, called on associates to gather at a congress and decide to dissolve themselves.

As of May 1, the group declared a unilateral cease-fire, but with conditions, including the establishment of some legal framework for further negotiations.

The party congress decided that the organization's struggle had brought the Kurdish cause to the point of resolution through democratic politics, thus completing its historic mission.
