The European Commission has called on Washington not to agree to a unilateral exchange of territories during peace talks with Russia on Ukraine, warning US President Donald Trump that any agreement must include security guarantees for Kyiv.
A European Commission representative emphasized that any agreement must contain strong security guarantees for Ukraine, which will provide for no restrictions on the (Ukrainian) armed forces and support from third countries, Euractiv reports.
“The Russian position is presented as an exchange of territories, but it looks like a rather one-sided exchange,” said a senior European Commission official.
He added that instead of territorial concessions, security guarantees are of paramount importance for Ukraine.
