Europeans only talk, they don't act, says Trump

Responding to a question about the possible imposition of sanctions against Russia by NATO, President Trump said that the Alliance and Europe are not doing their job. The main complaint of the White House chief was that European countries continue to buy energy resources from Russia.

“Look, Europe — they are my friends. But they buy oil from Russia. So we can't be the only ones working, you know, at full capacity,” Trump emphasized.

He called the sanctions imposed by Europe insufficiently tough and set a condition for further action by the US.

“I am ready to impose sanctions, but they must strengthen their sanctions in line with what I am doing,” the president said.

Trump expects synchronized or preemptive action from his European partners.

“Well, I am ready to move forward, but they must do so too. I think they will. But so far, they are only talking, not acting,” Trump said.

Trump categorically stated that the agreement with the Europeans was to completely refuse to buy Russian goods.

“The agreement is that they should not buy from Russia — whether it's natural gas or cigarettes, I don't care,” the president emphasized.

When reminded of his promise to impose serious sanctions against Russia, the president responded with an assurance that when they are imposed, they will be very, very strong.
