Hungary accuses EU of large-scale legal fraud

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that as soon as the RePowerEU plan is adopted, Hungary and Slovakia will file a motion with the European Court of Justice to annul it and will request that the decision be suspended for the duration of the proceedings.

“We are taking this step because the ban on Russian oil and gas imports will make it impossible to ensure a secure energy supply for Hungary and Slovakia and will lead to a sharp rise in prices,” he said.

Szijjártó accused the EU of large-scale legal fraud, as, in his opinion, RePowerEU is a sanction measure that requires unanimous approval.

“It also contradicts EU treaties, which state that energy policy is a national competence, and even contradicts the European Commission's assessment,” he added.
