The opening of the concert season of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine will take place under the direction of a new chief conductor

As reported on Facebook by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, the opening of the 162nd concert season of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine will take place under the direction of the new chief conductor of the Academic Symphony Orchestra Theodore Kuhar.

For the first time since independence, the institute held an open competition for this position. The winner was an American maestro with Ukrainian roots. Theodore Kuhar has been collaborating with orchestras for many years and has a reputation as a conductor who masterfully combines technical virtuosity with a deep understanding of Ukrainian music.

He was the artistic director and chief conductor of such symphony orchestras as the Queensland Philharmonic Orchestra, Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra, Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquestra Simponica de Venezuela, Slovak National Symphony Orchestra/Slovak Sinfoniet. With the latter, more than 300 concerts were held in Kyiv and on four continents, more than 70 CDs were recorded.

On August 9, under his direction, the opening concert will feature Reinhold Glière's "Zaporozhians", Yevgeny Stankovich's Symphony No. 2, and the legendary "Heroic" Symphony No. 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven.
