The Pentagon says the Biden administration has been recklessly handing out weapons for four years.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said a pause to assess the state of the U.S. stockpile is necessary, the AP reported.

"I believe that during the four years of the Biden administration, we gave away weapons and ammunition without thinking about how much we have. And I think this president was elected for putting the interests of the country and the defense of the homeland first," he added.

The pause applies to Patriot missiles, GMLRS precision missiles, Hellfire missiles and howitzer shells.

An official said other weapons that have been held back include the AIM-7 Sparrow medium-range, radar-guided air-to-air missiles, as well as shorter-range Stinger missiles and AT-4 grenade launchers.
