The USA demands Russia and Ukraine to compromise

Achieving peace is a priority for President Donald Trump's administration, but the process will be difficult and will require significant concessions from both sides, CNN reported.

“We want the war to end. That's pretty clear. You've seen what the president has talked about, he wants to be a president who promotes peace and ends conflict, and that's going to be difficult as well. These are complicated things. I don't want to and I can't give a time frame, except to say that any time you try to end a conflict between two sides, neither of which can achieve their maximum goals, each side is going to have to concede something,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

He refrained from being specific about what exactly Ukraine has to concede, but emphasized that the key to success lies in diplomacy.

“We will not get ahead of ourselves talking about details. Negotiations at this level should be conducted through diplomacy, not in public forums. And it is obvious that the final decisions on what to agree to will be made by the participating countries themselves - both Ukrainians and Russians,” he said.

Asked about the timing of the ceasefire, he said, “This will be the president's top priority, so action will begin almost immediately. The groundwork is already being laid for negotiations, but it will be a complex process.”

Rubio emphasized that Russia is the aggressor in this war and insisted that it must end.

“Russia is the aggressor in this conflict, but this war must end. At the end of the day, that's what the complexity of foreign policy is all about,” he said.
