US President Donald Trump's special envoy for Middle East affairs Steve Whitkoff held talks with the Russian side in Moscow.
“I spoke with my counterpart who is there and he's on his way back so we can assess it and discuss it with President Trump, who will decide on the next steps,” said Mike Waltz, the US president's national security adviser.
He said details of the talks have not yet been disclosed. He said Washington was cautiously optimistic about the prospects for resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine, Fox News reported.
He said that after Whitkoff returns to the United States, the situation will be analyzed and discussed with President Donald Trump, who will decide on further steps.
“I'm not going to announce or discuss anything on national television, much less get ahead of the president,” he said.
