Ukraine war is a complex conflict - Rubio

“We would like to see this war in Ukraine end with a just finale, a just peace, a lasting peace,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

Rubio noted that this is a complex conflict and it is not just about ending it.

According to him, US President Donald Trump has made it clear that he wants to end it because there are a lot of deaths and a lot of destruction.

“But this is about a just end, in which Ukraine will remain a sovereign and independent country and we can put an end to this very costly and destructive conflict. There is still a long way to go. It's not going to be easy,” he said.

Rubio said several people are involved in the talks. Vice President J.D. Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent are in Europe.

“I'll be there later this week. So we will be talking to our European allies. We'll be talking to the Ukrainians. I'll be meeting with them later this week. So will the vice president. I think the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Finance Bessent will also be meeting with them,” he added.
