Ukraine war is a proxy war between US and Russia - Rubio

“And frankly, it's a proxy war between nuclear powers - the United States, which is helping Ukraine, and Russia - and it has to end. And nobody has an idea or a plan to end it,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

According to him, neither side has a clear plan to end it yet. He believes that the strategy of Ukraine's allies is reduced only to continuous military support, which, in his opinion, is not an effective solution to the situation, Fox News reported.

Rubio noted that Russia, although it experienced difficulties at the beginning of the war, remains a great power and has made some progress, but at the same time does not have a significant advantage. As such, the conflict has reached a stalemate. He emphasized that Trump is committed to finding a path to peace by engaging both sides in negotiations and urged Ukraine not to sabotage the process.

Tensions between Kiev and Washington rose after the US vice president's statement on the need for a diplomatic solution to the war.

“Zelensky decided to defy the vice president and question the very possibility of diplomacy,” Rubio said, adding that this is what led to the conflict.

He expressed hope that this position would be reconsidered, as negotiations would inevitably require concessions from both sides.

“We must put the Ukrainians and Russians at the negotiating table, and only Trump can make that possible,” Rubio concluded.
