US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reacted sharply to French President Emmanuel Macron's intention to recognize the Palestinian state.
After Macron announced his intention to recognize the Palestinian state in September, Rubio said he considered the French president's plans irresponsible.
“The United States strongly rejects Emmanuel Macron's plan to recognize the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly. This irresponsible decision only plays into the hands of Hamas propaganda and will delay peace. It is a slap in the face to the victims of the events of October 7,” Rubio said.
Currently, 146 countries have recognized the Palestinian state. France may become the first country in the Group of Seven to take such a step.
