“This is our hemisphere, and President Trump will not allow our security to be threatened,” the State Department said.

Pentagon chief Pete Gagset said there was a serious threat from China.

According to him, while America was building states in deserts and discussing pronouns, the Chinese Communist Party was studying US mistakes and building up its navy at a pace unseen since World War II.

"We recognize that we are in a new era of great power competition. That is why we proudly call ourselves the Department of War, not the Department of Defense. Not because we seek war, but because we truly understand that to ensure peace, we must be prepared to deter war and, if necessary, win it decisively.
