US President Donald Trump will be able to solve the UN financial crisis related to non-payment of contributions and budget constraints if they turn to him.
“If they came to Trump and told him, I would make everyone pay, just like I made NATO pay,” he said of himself in the third person. “All I have to do is call these countries. They would send checks within minutes.”
Trump did not specify whether the US plans to pay off its own billions in debt to the UN. He was unaware of the US debt, but is confident he can influence the situation, according to Politico.
Trump's statement came amid warnings from senior UN officials that the organization may be forced to cut back on operations and even close its headquarters in New York if it runs out of funds.
