US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is in Abu Dhabi, where he met with Russian officials and plans to do so again.
Driscoll met with the Russian delegation on Monday evening. The meeting lasted several hours, according to CBS News.
“He plans to meet with them again during the day (Tuesday) to discuss the peace process and quickly advance peace talks,” a US representative told CBS News.
It is unknown who else besides Driscoll is part of the US delegation in Abu Dhabi. It has not been reported who is representing the Russian side.
The meetings are taking place amid increased pressure from US President Trump to secure a ceasefire in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
Last weekend, Driscoll, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump's envoy Steve Wigoff, the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and diplomats from Ukraine and European allies took part in talks in Geneva.
Prior to that, Driscoll visited the Ukrainian capital last week.
