Death toll rises in Spain's massive forest fire

The number of confirmed deaths from a massive forest fire in the Spanish province of Almeria has risen to 13, following the death in hospital of a 93-year-old British woman, who was previously among the eight injured, Reuters reports.

The regional government of Andalusia reported that the woman was admitted to hospital early Friday with burns over 20% of her body.

The fate of approximately two dozen others remains unknown. Among them are British and Belgian citizens. Brussels reported on Sunday that three Belgian citizens are likely among the victims.

The fire in the municipality of Los Gallardos broke out on the evening of July 9, quickly spreading over a large area. The people, whose deaths have already been confirmed, were trapped by the flames on a narrow road while attempting to evacuate.
