Polish President Andrzej Duda has said that no peace talks can take place without Ukraine's participation.
Commenting on the likely prospect of an agreement between Ukraine and Russia after US President Donald Trump takes office, Duda said that no peace talks can take place without Ukraine's participation, European Pravda reported.
“I say this as the president of the Republic of Poland, as a neighboring country to Ukraine, and also as the president of a country that itself has gone through a very difficult historical experience,” he said.
Duda said it would be a violation of international law to allow Russia to retain the territory it has occupied in Ukraine.
“The international community cannot agree, and it is unacceptable, that Russia has seized certain territories in Ukraine and is holding them by force. That is unacceptable. We must not allow Russia to win this war,” he emphasized.
He said Trump understands the region and US involvement will be key.
“President Donald Trump - as the leader of the most powerful country in NATO, as the leader of a powerful economy - will be key. I am quietly waiting for the first steps that Donald Trump will take,” he said.
