Negotiations with Putin are not a betrayal of Ukraine - Pentagon chief

The head of the Pentagon Pete Hegseth said that Russian aggression has become a reset of production for NATO and a moment of realization that this alliance must be reliable, strong and real, The Guardian reports.

“This is why President Trump has called for increased defense spending for NATO, so that European countries recognize that this is an urgent, real threat to the continent, and this aggression should be a wake-up call,” he said.

Hegseth believes that confronting Russian aggression is an important European responsibility. He praises Trump as the best negotiator on the planet for bringing both sides to the table to seek peace.

Hegseth was asked if recent U.S. actions and statements are a betrayal of Ukraine.

“This is your speech, not mine. Of course it's not treason. There is no treason, there is a recognition that the whole world and the US is investing in peace, in a negotiated peace,” he replied.
