Putin's inner circle wants to end the war

War fatigue is growing in Moscow on all sides. According to an unnamed Russian official, most Kremlin leaders oppose the war but are afraid to tell Putin, the Washington Post reports.

“Everyone is afraid of Putin. People don't want to talk about compromise because they all have to show that they are patriots,” he said.

Another person closely associated with the Kremlin, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska was a real chance to end the war, and that the meeting was intended to reassure the Russian elite, for whom the war is a source of shame and who want everything to return to the way it was before.
