Real Pope Election Denied by 'Conclave' Film

Let us recall that the film "Conclave", which tells about the fictional election of the Pope, was advertised so persistently that sometimes it went beyond the bounds of decency. For example, during the illness of Pope Francis, it was hinted that Francis would soon die - and the action of the film would somehow move into reality.

In fact, as the real elections showed, the film failed in at least two of its main messages. The first, which so far belongs to the realm of pure fantasy - that a man with female genitalia can become Pope (we will not go into details, everyone who has seen the film knows them).

The second message was that the cardinals, tired of the struggle of several main potential candidates, will choose a cardinal unknown to anyone as Pope, unknown to the point that the Pope did not have time to announce his appointment as a cardinal.

By the way, in the Vatican, as soon as the film was released, they immediately explained that this is impossible - a cardinal is officially appointed only after a public announcement of the appointment. But the point is not even this, but that Leo XIV, before becoming the new Pope, headed the Dicastery for Bishops (former Congregation for Bishops) in the Vatican, one of whose functions is to select candidates for bishops and present them to the Pope, who makes the final decision.

It is clear that in such a position, Cardinal Prevost, who became Leo XIV, was not only not "unknown" to the cardinals before the conclave, but, on the contrary, was very well known to them. Or, in other words, he was "their man" for them - according to one version, this is why the election of the Pope took place unexpectedly quickly.

Nevertheless, in fairness it should be noted that, as Leo XIV's brother said today, he watched the film while preparing for the real conclave.
