Britain has refused to allow the US to launch air strikes against Iran from its base on Diego Garcia and its air base in Gloucestershire.
The US military had hoped to use the base on Diego Garcia, as well as RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, where US heavy bombers are stationed, according to Sky News.
Under long-standing agreements between London and Washington, the Pentagon can only launch operations from these two locations, as well as from other UK air bases where US military aircraft and personnel are stationed, with the prior approval of the British government.
The UK has not given permission to strike Iran because it is concerned about a possible violation of international law.
The UK does not intend to support the US in any military operation against Iran.
