EU does not plan to appoint a negotiator with Putin

EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas and key member states, particularly Germany, do not consider such a move advisable at this stage, DPA reports.

The EU initially wants to focus on strategy, not personalities. They cite the issues the EU should discuss with Russia and how it can support diplomatic efforts to end Russia's war in Ukraine as important.

The EU will continue to prepare additional sanctions against Russia, as EU officials do not believe Putin is ready for negotiations.

On May 28, the European Commission and the EU Foreign Service will present proposals to member states for a 21-part sanctions package against Russia, targeting the financial sector and defense suppliers.
