European leaders support Trump and want to seize Russian assets

They are united in their desire for a just and lasting peace, which the Ukrainian people deserve.

“We strongly support President Trump's position that hostilities must cease immediately and that the current line of contact should be the starting point for negotiations. We remain committed to the principle that international borders cannot be changed by force,” the statement emphasized.

The leaders noted that Russia's delaying tactics prove time and again that Ukraine is the only party that is serious about peace.

"We all see that Putin continues to choose violence and destruction. Therefore, we clearly state that Ukraine must be in a stronger position before, during, and after any truce. We must increase pressure on Russia's economy and its defense industry until Putin is ready to make peace," they emphasized.

The countries are developing measures to use the full value of Russia's frozen sovereign assets so that Ukraine has the necessary resources.

Leaders will meet later this week at the European Council and in the “coalition of the determined” format to discuss how to move this work forward and continue to support Ukraine.

The statement was signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President António Costa, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
