In the US, a supporter of the Islamic State terrorist group opened fire at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

The FBI is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism, according to The Washington Post.

The attacker was a naturalized US citizen named Mohamed Baylor Jallow.

On Thursday, at around 10:40 a.m. local time, he opened fire in the Constant Hall academic building. According to FBI Special Agent Dominic Evans, before opening fire, the man shouted “Allahu Akbar.”

One person was killed and two others were injured in the shooting. One of the victims is in critical condition.

Students were able to subdue the attacker before the police arrived. Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene found the suspect dead. The FBI clarified that he did not die from a gunshot wound, but did not specify the exact cause of death.

In 2017, Jalloh was sentenced to 11 years in prison for attempting to support the terrorist group Islamic State.

Jalloh visited Nigeria to meet with ISIS militants, listened to online lectures by the leader of Al-Qaeda, and planned to carry out a terrorist attack on US soil similar to the mass murder at Fort Hood military base (Texas), which killed 13 people.

Jalloh was released on December 23, 2024.
