Major accident in Italy: 6 dead, 34 injured

The collision, which occurred between the Colli sul Velino and Piediluco interchanges, also involved three cars, which were unable to avoid the collision. One of the cars overturned, Rai News reports.

Four of the dead were on the bus, which was providing transportation to the Marmore Falls: two drivers and two passengers. The other two were in the van – tourists returning from an excursion around Terni. Three seriously injured people (one of whom later died) were airlifted and hospitalized in critical condition at Terni Hospital, while another was taken to Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

The remaining 24 people (including a child) were taken to hospitals in Rieti, Terni, and Foligno under "yellow" and "green" alerts.

An investigation is underway to identify the deceased. In addition to medical care for the injured, those involved in the accident who were not injured were provided psychological support.

The investigation has been entrusted to the Terni traffic police, with the support of the Rieti traffic police. The prosecutor on duty from the Terni prosecutor's office arrived at the scene and, based on the preliminary results of the investigation, may open a case of vehicular homicide or manslaughter.
