Passenger trains collide in Indonesia

According to a statement from the state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia, approximately 38 passengers were taken to hospitals for medical treatment, the Associated Press reports.

The Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity train crashed into the rear car of a commuter train that had stopped at Bekasi Timur station. That car was reserved exclusively for women, a common practice to prevent harassment.

Rescue teams attempted to reach five passengers who were trapped in the damaged car of the commuter train.

All 240 passengers on the Argo Bromo Anggrek train have been rescued.

The death toll from the train collision near Jakarta has risen to 14, with another 84 people injured.
