Portugal seizes submarine carrying record amount of cocaine

As a result, the military and law enforcement agencies managed to detain the submarine, which was carrying 300 bales of drugs, the Portuguese Navy reported.

The operation lasted more than 86 hours and involved more than 60 military personnel.

The vessel, whose crew consisted of four people from Latin America, was intercepted on the high seas, approximately 426 kilometers from the Azores.

Due to adverse weather conditions and the vessel's fragile construction, it could not be towed and ultimately sank. The investigation is ongoing.
