A Russian drone crashed into a high-rise building in the Romanian city of Galati.

Residents of a building on a street were awakened in the middle of the night by the distinctive sound of a flying drone. A loud explosion followed, followed by a fire in a 10th-floor apartment, according to Ukrainska Pravda.

Rescue services and police were at the scene. Seventy people were evacuated from the building.

The apartment in the residential building where the drone struck sustained significant damage. Two people suffered minor injuries and acute stress reactions.

Daniela Enciu, director of the Galati regional ambulance service, reported that a woman suffered first-degree burns, and a 14-year-old boy suffered an acute stress reaction. Both victims are receiving medical attention.

The Ukrainian Air Force previously reported an attack by a group of Russian drones in the Odessa region, in the direction of Reni. The Romanian Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) in Galati reported a drone crash on a residential building and confirmed reports of a fire on the 10th floor, with injuries and evacuations reported.

Romanian rescuers reported that the fire had been extinguished and the "red response plan" had been cancelled. Experts determined that the drone's explosive charge had detonated and posed no further threat.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the drone that crashed on a high-rise building in Galati was Russian.

"On the night of May 28-29, the Russian Federation resumed drone attacks on civilian targets and infrastructure in Ukraine, near the river border with Romania. One drone entered Romanian airspace and was tracked by radar as far south as Galati, after which it crashed onto the roof of a residential building, causing a fire as a result of the explosion," the Ministry of Defense reported.

At 1:19 AM, two F-16 fighter jets, supported by an IAR 330 SOCAT helicopter, scrambled from the Fetești Air Base to intercept the drone. The pilots had clearance to engage the target.

After the drone was detected, residents of Tulcea, Galați, and Breila counties were alerted via the Ro-Alert system.

"The situation is rapidly evolving, and we will provide official information and data as soon as it becomes available," the Ministry of Defense reported.
