The Russian army has captured the village of Shevchenko in Donetsk region.

By seizing this village, located just over 10 kilometers from Velyka Novoselka, Russian troops have gained access to one of the most promising lithium deposits in Ukraine, Le Figaro reported.

The deposit has some of the largest reserves in Eastern Europe - about 1.2 million tons of ore with a lithium fraction of more than 1.5%.

Lithium is one of the metals whose prices have risen sharply in recent years as it has become a key component in the production of batteries for electric cars.

Lithium is used in electronics manufacturing, as well as in glass ceramics, aircraft alloys and for energy storage.

In 2022, the price of lithium set a record of over $80,000 per ton. As of June 27, 2025, the price per ton of lithium in China is $8.5 thousand dollars.
