Starmer voiced his prediction on the timing of the ceasefire

“We are at an intensive stage of negotiations. At the end of the day, I always keep in mind that it is Ukraine that should decide these issues - not other people should decide on behalf of Ukraine. It is Ukraine that should decide. And Russia should sit down at the negotiating table for an unconditional ceasefire,” Starmer said.

He echoed the call for U.S. security guarantees for British and other Western forces planning to deploy to Ukraine to monitor peace, The Telegraph reported.

Starmer insists that Ukraine should have the right to determine the terms of any peace agreement with Russia.

Starmer refused to back US plans to recognize Crimea as Russian, as reported in the media, and demanded that Moscow agree to an unconditional ceasefire.

“It has to be a ceasefire on terms that all sides can accept, including Ukraine, and it has to be a long-term ceasefire. What I don't want to see is a temporary ceasefire, because I'm as convinced as I can be that that would just leave Russia with the opportunity and the means to come back in the future. They've done it before and I have no doubt they will do it again,” he said.
