Support for Ukraine is killing the EU, - Orbán

According to Orbán, financial support for Ukraine is killing the European Union economically and financially and is simply madness, reports Politico.

" We have already burned through €185 billion, and... we are going to burn even more. In this way, we are financing a country that has no chance of winning the war," Orban said.

He accused European leaders of deliberately prolonging the war in order to gain a better negotiating position for a future peace agreement. According to the Hungarian prime minister, this approach is misguided.

“The situation and timing are more favorable for the Russians than for us. Don't continue; stop this as soon as possible,” Orbán urged.

Regarding a possible peaceful settlement, Orbán said he expects an agreement between the Russians and Americans on war, trade, energy, and other issues.

He called on Europe to open an independent channel of communication with Russia and conduct parallel negotiations in order to ultimately unite the positions of the Americans and Europeans.

Describing the future security system, Orbán noted that the post-war arrangement for Ukraine should include a peace agreement that stabilizes borders, regardless of whether they are recognized internationally, as well as definitely some kind of demilitarized zone.

He expressed confidence that, barring a miracle, Russia will continue to occupy Ukrainian territories even after the war ends.

“This is reality, whether you like it or not,” Orban emphasized.
