Trump clashes with Pentagon chief

US President Donald Trump's frustration with the war with Iran reached a climax last week at Camp David, where he demanded an explanation from Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth for his misinformation about the acute shortage of ammunition, which now threatens to limit military capabilities in a conflict with Iran.

This conversation took place on Friday on the sidelines of a Cabinet meeting at Camp David, where Trump expressed his disappointment to Hegseth, stating that he believed the ammunition problem had been resolved, according to The Washington Post.

The shortage, particularly of long-range guided missiles and air defense interceptors, was one of the reasons Trump recently abandoned plans to launch additional large-scale strikes against Iran.

At Camp David, when Trump accused the secretary of depleting weapons stockpiles, Hegseth defended himself and blamed his deputy, Stephen Feinberg, for the shortage and for failing to keep Trump fully informed about the issue.

This dispute underscored Trump's growing disillusionment with his defense secretary, who, according to many officials, was one of the most ardent advocates of military action against Iran initially and convinced Trump that it would be a quick and relatively easy victory.

"This is 100% fake news. This literally never happened. And President Trump has the utmost confidence in Secretary Hegseth," White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said.
