US President Donald Trump is ready to walk away from talks to end Russia's war against Ukraine if no progress is made.
Trump said he asked Putin during their two-hour phone call when he would stop this bloodshed in Ukraine, CNN reported.
"I said: When will we stop this bloodshed, this bloodbath? It's a bloodbath, and I believe he wants to stop it," he said.
Trump said that if he felt he could not help, he would back out of the talks. He added that there are some very big egos involved.
"I'm telling you, there are big egos involved, but I think something will happen. And if it doesn't happen, I'll just back down and they'll have to continue," he said.
Asked if he had asked to meet with Putin during their conversation, the president said he had talked to him about it.
Trump and Putin will have to meet directly to end the war.
"Of course I did. I talked to him about it," the US president noted.
Trump said that some progress was made during the conversation with Putin.
