Two oil tankers exploded in the Strait of Hormuz

UK Maritime Trade Operations received a report of a fire on a vessel off the coast of Oman late Sunday evening, although it has not confirmed the cause, Reuters reports.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that two oil tankers exploded and were disabled after attempting to transit what it claims was the dangerous southern route through Hormuz. The IRGC claimed the vessels were allegedly induced to use this passage by the US military.

There is no information yet on the names of the vessels, the condition of the crews, the nature of the damage, or the cause of the explosions. Independent confirmation of Iran's claim has not been provided.
