UK prime ninister to urge Trump to provide Patriot missiles to Ukraine

He was referring to his participation in the upcoming UN General Assembly meeting in New York. This will be his first visit as Prime Minister, according to Bloomberg.

Burnham's announcement came during his first international visit since taking office as Prime Minister, after chairing his first meeting of Ukraine's allies and holding a bilateral meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy has repeatedly appealed to European countries and the US to help Ukraine obtain Patriot interceptor missiles and replenish their stockpiles before winter, when Russia is expected to once again intensify attacks on energy infrastructure. These interceptors are the most powerful weapon for shooting down Russian cruise and ballistic missiles. Burnham noted that he left Kyiv feeling genuinely optimistic that Ukraine's current difficulties defending against Russian ballistic missile attacks, caused by its insufficient stockpiles of interceptor missiles, can be resolved.

He reported that European leaders are considering holding another meeting of the "resolute coalition" during the UN General Assembly session to secure supplies of American interceptor missiles and other supplies for Ukraine.

"That seems to be the most likely direction. It's not confirmed yet, but it seems to be where most people are thinking," Burnham said.

He emphasized that while the UK is not using the Patriot missiles Ukraine needs, other European countries should step up their efforts in this direction.

"There are other players who could join this process and over whom we have influence. It will likely be a decision that involves many stages and numerous negotiations," he said.
