On July 28, the US Senate voted in favor of a bill drafted by the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham to impose sanctions on Russia and Iran.

86 senators voted in favor, according to Suspilne.

The procedural vote kicked off debate in the Senate and the consideration of written amendments to the bill. After the senators complete their deliberations, a final vote on passage will take place.

Afterward, it will go to the House of Representatives, and once both chambers approve it, US President Donald Trump must sign it into law.

The bill proposes sanctions against Russian officials and grants the US president the authority to impose significant tariffs on countries that continue to purchase Russian energy or help Moscow evade sanctions.

The US President will be able to impose tariffs of up to 100% on imports from countries that are major consumers of Russian oil and gas, particularly India, Japan, and some European Union countries.
