The US Navy will escort oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the stability of global oil supplies.
“I am confident that as soon as it becomes militarily feasible, the US Navy, possibly as part of an international coalition, will escort ships through the strait,” said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Iranian and Chinese tankers continue to pass through the strait, indicating that there are no mines, Sky News reports.
Iran's attacks on shipping and energy infrastructure have already pushed oil prices above $100 per barrel. The price surge occurred despite the decision by more than 30 countries to release 400 million barrels of oil from their strategic reserves.
