Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that there is no meaningful discussion about abandoning Russian energy.

He stated that transporting energy by water is impractical, and there are not many alternatives to the pipelines built during communist times, according to Index.

According to Orban, a month ago, the IMF published a report on the Hungarian economy, which found that if Hungary abandoned Russian energy, GDP would fall by four percentage points, which would have negative consequences.

Orban stated that hundreds of thousands of families would go bankrupt because utility prices would rise significantly.

"We must act calmly, listen to everyone, and we will make a decision based on the interests of the Hungarian people," he stated.

Orban added that America is not obligated to accept Hungary's arguments, but we must listen to each other.
