Tech giants to build supercomputer

Major American technology companies have pledged to invest £31 billion ($42 billion) in Britain, according to Reuters.

This agreement coincides with US President Donald Trump's second state visit to Britain, which will be marked on Wednesday by celebrations at Windsor Castle attended by King Charles and the royal family.

According to the British government, the agreement provides for the joint development of AI models for medicine, the expansion of quantum computing capabilities, and the simplification of civil nuclear energy projects. This is expected to support economic growth, scientific research, and energy security in both countries.

Nvidia will deploy 120,000 graphics processors across the country, the company's largest deployment in Europe. In particular, up to 60,000 Grace Blackwell Ultra chips will be used in conjunction with the British company Nscale, which will collaborate with OpenAI on the British part of the Stargate megaproject and in partnership with Microsoft to create Britain's largest supercomputer for AI.

Microsoft is investing £22 billion in the development of cloud and AI infrastructure, including the aforementioned supercomputer in Luton, northeast of London.

Google has announced £5 billion in investments, including the construction of a new data center in Waltom Cross, north of London, and further support for AI research through DeepMind.

Nvidia Vice President David Gogan said these projects will turn the UK into a producer of AI rather than a consumer.
