The Kremlin has responded to US President Donald Trump's comments calling Russia a "paper tiger".
"Russia is by no means a tiger. Russia is more commonly associated with a bear. There is no such thing as a paper bear," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
According to Peskov, the Kremlin cannot agree with all of Trump's statements about the Russian-Ukrainian military conflict. Peskov explained the change in the US president's tone by his meeting with Zelensky, Radio Liberty reports.
He added that Russia continues to engage in dialogue with the US and appreciates Trump's desire to achieve peace in Ukraine.
Peskov expressed surprise at Zelensky's refusal to visit Moscow and said that the locations proposed by Ukraine for a meeting between Zelensky and Putin, such as Switzerland and Austria, are unacceptable to Moscow.
According to the Kremlin spokesman, a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump has not yet been scheduled, but could be arranged at any time.
Peskov said that Putin and Trump are on friendly terms and have a warm relationship. Trump said yesterday that his personal relationship with Putin had no bearing on the possibility of ending the war.
Peskov called what is happening a “war” and noted that Russia “needs to win it.”
