Trump does not want to spoil his excellent relationship with Kim Jong Un

Trump noted that it was too late to cancel the exercises entirely, so he ordered the Pentagon chief to significantly reduce their scale.

The allies' annual joint maneuvers, scheduled to last 11 days, begin on Monday. They are designed to practice joint operational actions to deter the North Korean threat.
