US President Donald Trump has announced that his administration is withdrawing the National Guard from Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland.
According to Trump, the deployment of troops in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, Memphis, and Portland was necessary to combat crime and protect federal property and personnel from protesters, Reuters reports.
"We are withdrawing the National Guard from Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland, despite the fact that crime rates have dropped significantly thanks to the presence of these wonderful patriots in these cities, and only because of this fact. We will return, perhaps in a completely different and stronger form, when crime rates start to rise again — it's only a matter of time," Trump wrote.
