Ukraine to receive £20 million to support its energy system

“This comes as the UK and Ukraine mark the first anniversary of a remarkable 100-year partnership between the two countries,” the British government said.

During severe cold spells, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, including children and schools, were left without heating and electricity.

The new support will help meet the urgent heating and electricity needs of millions of families, children, and elderly people after President Zelensky declared a state of emergency in Ukraine as a result of prolonged attacks on Ukraine's energy sector.

These funds will provide vital emergency support for repairs, restoration, protection, and power generation across the country to provide electricity and heating to homes, hospitals, and schools in harsh winter conditions.

Marking the first anniversary of the 100-year partnership between the UK and Ukraine, the country is also expanding its school twinning program, which will benefit 54,000 British and Ukrainian students, contributing to the long-term security and growth of both countries.

Over the next three years, another 300 schools from both countries will take part in the landmark “100 Years of Partnership” program.
