Iran announces progress in negotiations with the US

According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, the US and Iranian delegations discussed preparations for negotiations aimed at concluding a final agreement, CNN reports.

According to Baghaei, the delegations in Switzerland discussed issues necessary for the start of final negotiations, including the unfreezing of Iran's assets and obtaining waivers from sanctions on the sale of Iranian oil. He added that significant progress had been made.

The US and Iran agreed on the need to ensure safe passage for ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

Baghai added that the mediators – Qatar and Pakistan – will soon publish a document outlining the agreements reached during the talks.

A joint statement from the mediators, Pakistan and Qatar, noted that the recently concluded talks between the US and Iran were held in a "positive and constructive atmosphere" and that "encouraging progress" was achieved.

The US and Iran agreed to establish a High-Level Committee to provide political oversight of the mediation process.

The chief negotiators will report regularly to the High-Level Committee and lead working groups focused on nuclear issues, sanctions, and a monitoring and dispute resolution group to ensure effective implementation of the memorandum of understanding and other issues.

The committee agreed on a roadmap for reaching a final agreement within 60 days, adding that technical negotiations on all issues will continue until the end of this week in Switzerland.

The US and Iran agreed to establish a deconfliction group, including Lebanon and mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, to ensure an end to military operations in Lebanon.
