Iran attacks two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz

The tankers Mombasa and Al Bahiyah were attacked in the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz while they were in Omani territorial waters, Reuters reports.

One crew member was killed; he was on board the Mombasa. Eight others were injured, four of them seriously. Among the injured were six Indian citizens and two Ukrainian citizens.

The attack damaged both tankers, and fires broke out on board. The fires were contained.

The UAE condemned the attack, calling it an "outrageous act," and reserved its full right to respond to this escalation.

The IRGC claimed to have disabled two rogue vessels that allegedly ignored warnings and attempted to navigate a mined route, accusing the US of inciting the vessels to do so.
