Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump don't always agree.
Netanyahu noted that such disagreements "happen even in the best of families," CNN reports.
"He is the President of the United States, and I am the Prime Minister of Israel. I am responsible for Israel's security interests, and that must be done wisely. With or without the agreement, Iran will not have nuclear weapons—not today, not tomorrow. As long as I am the Prime Minister of Israel, that will not happen. The fight is not over. We must remain vigilant, strong, and determined to defend ourselves if necessary," he said.
Netanyahu made it clear that Israel has no intention of withdrawing troops from southern Lebanon, Gaza, or Syria.
"We will remain in the safe zones as long as it takes to protect our country," he said.
Netanyahu acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the agreement itself. "We still don't know what the agreement will be," he said.
When asked whether the agreement was reached despite his position, Netanyahu emphasized his long-standing relationship with Trump.
"To act wisely, you need extensive experience and deep knowledge of the American political arena. I believe I'm doing this best," he said.
