Moldova prime minister announces resignation

"I accepted the offer to become Prime Minister with great responsibility and the firm belief that I could contribute to positive change. The moment I realized that I could no longer fulfill my role in accordance with my principles and convictions, I decided to step down," Munteanu wrote.

He expressed gratitude to his government team for their cooperation.

"I will continue to serve my country, regardless of my position, regardless of where I live, and regardless of my responsibilities, whether in the public or private sector," Munteanu added.

Munteanu's resignation is likely related to the corruption scandals that have rocked Moldova in recent days. Specifically, it was revealed that the head of the civil aviation safety agency, MOLDATSA, appointed to this position by the current government, has a fake university degree and pilot's license.

On July 2, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture was detained on suspicion of bribery.
